Is your artificial turf getting hot and feeling hard underfoot? Unlike rubber infill, which can turn a pitch into a frying pan and make it uncomfortable to play on, cork artificial grass infill lowers the surface temperature by as much as 30%. With new EU regulations banning the use of microplastics, natural cork granules offer an eco-friendly, safe, and comfortable alternative.

You probably have a few questions – let us answer them!

WHY IS CORK INFILL GRANULATE USED ON ARTIFICIAL TURF?

Cork granulate makes the surface more comfortable, stable, and softer underfoot. It helps the turf grip the ground better and prevents it from shifting. It also protects the pitch from UV radiation and moisture, which extends its lifespan. Cork cushions falls – something that often happens during physical activity – and reduces the risk of slipping.

IS CORK ARTIFICIAL GRASS INFILL SUITABLE FOR ALL TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL GRASS?

Yes, it’s suitable for use on sports pitches as well as in gardens, on terraces, and with decorative lawns. No matter the height of the grass, natural cork improves the softness, stability, and longevity of the surface.

DOES CORK INFILL REDUCE THE TEMPERATURE OF ARTIFICIAL TURF?

Yes, cork granulate doesn't heat up as quickly as other types of infill, such as rubber. Natural cork has low thermal conductivity – it absorbs heat more slowly and stays cooler for longer. This is especially important for players on the pitch, particularly during hot weather.

HOW MUCH NATURAL CORK DO I NEED TO COVER A PITCH?

1 kg of cork granulate is enough to cover 2 m² of artificial turf on a standard pitch. This makes it easy to calculate how much cork you need for your surface. For example, if your lawn is 20 m², you’ll need 10 kg of cork granulate.

WHAT VOLUMES OF CORK INFILL FOR ARTIFICIAL TURF ARE AVAILABLE?

We offer cork granulate for pitches in eight different weight options. You can purchase it in convenient packs of 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg, or 20 kg. For larger needs, we also supply bulk quantities on pallets: half a pallet contains 180 kg, a full pallet holds 360 kg, two pallets equal 720 kg, and three pallets provide 1080 kg.

HOW TO PROPERLY APPLY NATURAL CORK TO ARTIFICIAL TURF?

  • Start by spreading a thin, even layer of sand across the entire surface of the pitch – ideally between 2 and 5 mm thick. This base layer helps keep the granulate in place without creating bumps or uneven areas.
  • Gradually and evenly scatter the cork granulate over the turf. Avoid dumping too much in one spot. Use a rake to distribute the cork smoothly and consistently across the surface.
  • If you notice any areas with too much or too little cork, simply adjust and level out the surface as needed.

HOW SHOULD UNUSED CORK GRANULATE BE STORED?

Store it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. You can keep it in sealed bags or containers to maintain its quality and protect it from moisture and dirt.

CAN I MIX CORK INFILL FOR ARTIFICIAL GRASS WITH OTHER MATERIALS?

It’s best not to mix natural cork with other materials. Cork granulate is a quality infill on its own – adding other substances may compromise its performance and reduce its effectiveness.

IS CORK INFILL FOR ARTIFICIAL GRASS FLAMMABLE?

No, natural cork burns more slowly than other materials, such as rubber. In the event of a fire, cork granulate also does not release toxic gases, making it a safer option.

HOW OFTEN DOES CORK INFILL FOR ARTIFICIAL GRASS NEED TO BE REPLACED?

Cork granulate doesn't need to be replaced frequently – regular checks and occasional top-ups are usually enough. In most cases, a full replacement is only necessary after 5 to 10 years of use.

IS CORK GRANULATE CERTIFIED?

Yes, it holds an official hygiene certificate issued by the National Institute of Public Health (PZH) in Poland. This means it is completely safe for the skin – it does not cause allergies, irritation, or any adverse effects. We are currently the only company in Poland offering cork granulate with a PZH certificate.

IS CORK GRANULATE ECO-FRIENDLY AND COMPLIANT WITH EU STANDARDS?

Yes, cork granulate is a 100% natural material and contains no microplastics. It fully complies with current European Union regulations, which ban the use of microplastics in sports surfaces.

WILL CORK GRANULATE SHIFT DURING USE?

No, thanks to proper ground preparation – including a stabilising layer of sand – and cork’s natural ability to adhere to the turf fibres, the granulate stays securely in place.

Cork granulate is a simple and convenient way to improve the quality of your pitch – making play more comfortable, safer, and more enjoyable. It cushions falls, reduces the risk of slipping, and doesn’t heat up as quickly as rubber infill. And most importantly – it’s completely natural.

Black text WHY is it worth it?» with cork on the right on a white background.

#1 STAYS IN PLACE

Cork infill for artificial turf is heavy enough (with a density of 180–200 kg/m³) not to be blown away by the wind or displaced easily. It remains nestled between the blades of grass, ensuring both stability and a neat, well-kept appearance of the pitch.

Thanks to its fine grain size of 1–2 mm, cork granulate is perfectly suited for filling artificial grass. It spreads evenly between the fibres and doesn’t clump together.

#2 SAFETY AND COMFORT ON THE PITCH

Natural cork provides a comfortable and safe playing surface for children, teenagers, and adult athletes alike. It offers excellent shock absorption, helping to reduce the risk of injury from falls. It also enhances traction, lowering the likelihood of slipping on artificial turf.

At a time when the European Union is banning the use of plastic and rubber infill materials, cork stands out as a certified, 100% natural alternative. Cork granulate is one of the few legal and eco-friendly infills that fully comply with EU regulations.

#3 CORK INFILL VS RUBBER

Rubber granulate has long been the most common infill for artificial turf, but it turns out to have several significant drawbacks. Rubber heats up quickly in the sun, posing a risk of burns. It also emits an unpleasant odour and releases toxic substances, which can be harmful to health. While it offers good shock absorption, it hardens in colder temperatures—raising the risk of injury.

Cork granulate offers a safer, sustainable alternative. It maintains a lower surface temperature, providing greater comfort even on hot days. It is 100% natural and biodegradable, meaning it doesn’t pollute the environment and helps reduce CO₂ emissions.

#4 AN AESTHETIC, COOL AND QUIET PITCH

Cork blends beautifully with artificial grass, giving it a more natural appearance. It makes the playing surface almost indistinguishable from real soil. Cork infill helps maintain the aesthetic appeal of the pitch by protecting the turf from distortion and preserving its natural look over time.

Cork also naturally reduces the surface temperature of the turf—by up to 30%—which is especially valuable on hot days. In addition, artificial grass filled with cork absorbs sound effectively, an important feature for pitches that tend to get particularly noisy during play.
