We understand you may have a few questions — allow us to provide the answers.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FINE, MEDIUM, AND COARSE-GRAIN CORK?
Fine-grain cork sheets are recognised for their smoothness, flexibility, and resistance to crumbling. If you require natural cork for cutting or crafting, fine-grain cork is the ideal option — it frays less during trimming. Perfect for producing promotional items, gaskets, coasters, and shoe soles. These sheets also make excellent decorative wall coverings if you prefer a sleek, refined finish.
Medium-grain cork panels are particularly suited to creating noticeboards, displays, and portable partitions. They are sturdy enough to pin notes or photographs securely, offering both practicality and aesthetic appeal.
Coarse-grain cork panels excel in insulation — both acoustic and thermal. Install them on walls or ceilings to effectively reduce external noise and help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
CAN MEDIUM-GRAIN CORK PANELS BE INSTALLED ON THE FLOOR?
It is advisable to use a dedicated cork flooring solution or a cork underlay when considering floor applications, rather than medium-grain cork panels.
ARE MEDIUM-GRAIN CORK PANELS AVAILABLE WITH A SELF-ADHESIVE BACKING?
Yes, you can also find our medium-grain cork panels in a self-adhesive version. Installation is made exceptionally simple — just peel off the protective layer and press the panel firmly onto your chosen surface. No need for additional adhesives or tools!
Important: Before installation, please:
#1 Allow the natural cork to acclimatise for 72 hours in the room where it will be fitted. Cork must adjust to ambient conditions to prevent shrinkage, cracking, or peeling.
The adhesive is intended only for smooth, flat, clean, and dust-free surfaces such as plasterboard or furniture.
HOW DO CORK PANELS COMPARE IN COST TO OTHER MATERIALS?
Initially, cork wall panels might appear more expensive compared to other insulation and finishing materials. However, technical cork represents a long-term investment that pays for itself. Unlike polystyrene, which tends to wear out quickly and needs frequent replacement, cork remains durable — saving you both money and valuable time in the future.
CORK PANELS VS CORK ROLLS – WHICH TO CHOOSE?
For larger surface areas, it is recommended to use cork rolls, which allow you to cover spaces seamlessly without visible joints. For smaller projects, technical cork panels are the perfect choice — they are ready for immediate use without the need to flatten after unpacking, unlike cork rolls.
HOW TO MAKE A CORK BOARD USING A MEDIUM-DENSITY PANEL?
- Select a cork panel with a thickness of between 6 mm and 12 mm. Ensure it is supported by a rigid board such as MDF, HDF, or plywood for added stability.
- Use a pencil to mark out the desired shape. Prepare scissors or a sharp cork knife to trim the cork to size accurately.
- Apply cork adhesive evenly, pressing gently to secure the cork and eliminate any air bubbles.
- Allow the board to dry for approximately 24 hours.
- Mount the cork board to your wall using picture hooks, screws, or double-sided adhesive tape — and it’s ready to use!
Tip: Apply a water-based varnish around the edges to protect against fraying. Installing a decorative frame is also highly recommended for a refined finish.
CAN CORK PANELS BE USED ON THE CEILING?
Yes, cork panels are also an excellent choice for ceilings. They are lightweight, making them straightforward to install. However, it is essential to secure them properly to prevent the risk of panels coming loose.
HOW TO INSTALL CORK PANELS ON YOUR WALL?
Installing a cork panel on a wall is a straightforward task that you can easily complete yourself.
- Thoroughly clean the wall surface to ensure the adhesive bonds effectively.
- Wakol D-3540 adhesive is highly recommended for securing cork panels. Approximately 120 grams of adhesive are required per panel. A 0.8 kg pack is sufficient for around 6 panels, while a 2.5 kg container will cover up to 20 panels.
- Apply the adhesive evenly to both the wall and the reverse side of the cork panel. A short-pile velvet roller is ideal for achieving a smooth, consistent layer.
- Before fitting the panels, ensure that the adhesive has become transparent on both surfaces.
- Affix the panels carefully to the wall, pressing them gently to secure them in place.
- Allow the adhesive to dry fully — Wakol dries in approximately 24 hours.
- For convenience, consider using a complete application kit, containing all the essential tools for gluing, painting, and sealing cork panels.
- Alternative woodworking adhesives, particularly quick-bond contact adhesives, can also be employed to simplify the process.
HOW TO CUT MEDIUM-DENSITY CORK?
To achieve a clean, precise cut, use a sharp tool such as a specialised cork cutting knife.
CAN FINE-GRAIN CORK SHEETS BE USED IN HIGH-HUMIDITY AREAS, SUCH AS BATHROOMS?
Absolutely! Medium-grain cork panels perform exceptionally well in environments with humidity levels ranging between 40% and 60%. Thanks to the natural presence of suberin — a waterproofing component — these panels are resistant to both moisture and mould. Suberin provides a natural barrier, preventing water absorption and inhibiting the development of microorganisms.
HOW TO CARE FOR CORK PANELS TO ENSURE LONGEVITY?
Cleaning is simple: just use a soft cloth lightly dampened with water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the delicate surface of the cork. For additional protection, it is advisable to apply a special waterproof sealant — only select water-based varnishes that are safe for cork.

#3 NATURALLY ANTI-STATIC AND HYPOALLERGENIC
Did you know that medium-grain natural cork can help create a healthier living and working environment? Imagine entering a room every day without worrying about allergies or irritations. Thanks to its natural anti-static and hypoallergenic properties, cork helps minimise dust and allergens in the air.
#4 AN ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE CHOICE
By choosing medium-grain natural cork, you are selecting a material that does not involve deforestation. Cork is harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, which regenerate every 9–12 years, allowing the trees to continue thriving. Furthermore, during this period, cork trees absorb up to five times more CO2 than other tree species, resulting in a carbon-negative impact on the environment.
Moreover, cork panels are biodegradable, meaning that once your cork board has fulfilled its purpose, it can be recycled into new cork products.
#5 EASY TO MAINTAIN
Keeping a medium-grain cork board clean is effortless. Simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth. Thanks to its natural resistance to mould and moisture, you need not worry about dampness or unwanted microorganisms. This ensures your space remains not only attractive but also fresh and hygienic for a long time.
Please avoid using strong cleaning agents such as bleach or acetone, as they can damage the cork's structure and compromise its resistance to moisture and mould.
