WHAT FLOORING CAN YOU LAY CORK RUBBER UNDERLAY UNDER?

You can install rubber-cork underlay beneath a wide range of flooring types: it’s suitable for laminate flooring, parquet, solid wood, carpets, linoleum, PVC, stone surfaces, and ceramic tiles. It’s a solid choice for glued flooring, offering top-notch thermal and acoustic performance.

Rubber-cork underlay is also safe to use with hydronic underfloor heating systems, as it spreads heat evenly and boosts comfort levels. Just avoid pairing it with electric heating, which might negatively affect the cork.

CORK RUBBER UNDERLAY AND REGULAR CORK – WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Rubber-cork underlay is essentially a more durable alternative to plain cork underlay. It’s made by blending cork and rubber granules, bound with a polyurethane-based adhesive. This combination gives it extra strength, more flexibility, and better insulation against both heat and noise. It’s a smart pick for trickier subfloors where better density and insulation are needed.

WHAT KIND OF INSULATION DOES CORK RUBBER OFFER?

Rubber-cork underlay provides solid thermal insulation, helping to trap warmth in the room. It keeps your floor feeling cosy to walk on and adds day-to-day comfort. When installed beneath flooring panels, it creates an insulating layer that reduces heat loss and can help cut down heating bills.

IS CORK RUBBER UNDERLAY GOOD FOR SOUNDPROOFING?

Definitely — its soundproofing qualities effectively lower noise from the floor.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO GET THE FLOOR READY BEFORE PUTTING THE UNDERLAY?

The subfloor needs to be clean, flat, and firm. Before laying a rubber-cork underlay, check that the moisture level in the subfloor is no more than 2.5%, the temperature in the room is over 10°C, and the humidity doesn’t go above 75%.

HOW DO YOU PROPERLY FIT THE UNDERLAY TO THE FLOOR?

  1. Acclimating the underlay: Unpack the underlay and leave it for 24 hours before fitting, so it can settle into the room conditions.
  2. Trimming: Cut the underlay using a sharp knife, leaving a gap of around 2–3 cm from the walls. Cut the strips to match the room’s size, then roll them back up temporarily.
  3. Applying the glue: Use a cork-based glue like Wakol D3540. Apply it to the subfloor with a notched trowel (B1 or B2) across the width where you’ll lay each strip. Wait for the adhesive to turn clear — that’s your cue to go ahead.
  4. Placing the underlay: Carefully roll out each strip over the glue, pressing down evenly. Use a roller to smooth it out and push away any trapped air. Make sure the strip edges sit tightly together.
  5. Installing your flooring: Wait 24 to 48 hours after laying the underlay, then fit your final flooring, following the instructions that come with the adhesive.

Heads up! Never use mechanical fixings like screws or nails on the underlay — it’ll mess with its insulation properties. Stick to the adhesive manufacturer’s guidelines for the best outcome.

WHAT IS THE DENSITY OF THE CORK RUBBER UNDERLAY?

The density of the underlay is approximately 650 kg/m³ (in accordance with ISO 7322).

Fed up with underlays that fall apart after just a few years? Cheap options might seem like a bargain, but they often lead to repeat repairs, extra spending, and unnecessary hassle. Rubber-cork is a long-lasting solution that helps you save your time, money, and nerves.

#1 COMFORT YOU CAN FEEL

Do you often find yourself playing with the kids on the floor? Or do you simply enjoy walking barefoot in the evenings? With a rubber-cork underlay under your panels, every step and every sit-down moment becomes more pleasant.

It creates a comfortable base for movement — no cold shocks from the floor, no squeaking sounds, just warm, silent comfort you’ll love having every day.

#2 TURN DOWN THE VOLUME

Is background noise driving you mad? While it’s tough to block every sound, squeaky floors are definitely something you can deal with. Thanks to its excellent acoustic performance, this underlay softens footfall sounds — giving you peace to work and letting kids play freely without causing disruption.

No matter how lively the house gets, rubber-cork brings you quiet and comfort — just what you need for both productivity and downtime.

#3 PROTECTION THAT LASTS

Need something dependable under your flooring? Rubber-cork underlay fits the bill. It’s resistant to damp, won’t rot, and doesn’t suffer from biological wear. It keeps its shape even under pressure, meaning your panels stay smooth and secure.

You won’t need to replace it anytime soon. Rubber-cork is a durable material that holds up for the long haul.

#4 A SUPERIOR FLOORING OPTION

Compared to typical materials like soft fibreboard, foam, cardboard or paper, rubber-cork underlay stands out. It’s more hard-wearing and much more reliable.

It combines strength with a comfort level you won’t find elsewhere. Your floor will not only last for years — it’ll stay warm and quiet to walk on throughout its lifetime.
