Got a few questions? We’ve got the answers ready for you!
WHAT CAN CORK ROLLS WITH A THICKNESS OF 5–10 MM BE USED FOR?
This thickness of cork is perfect for creating large pin or notice boards – ideal for pinning photos, reminders, and notes. The 10mm version offers the best insulation against both sound and temperature among all cork rolls.
CAN SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLLS BE APPLIED TO UPRIGHT SURFACES?
Yes – without any problem. The adhesive is strong enough to hold securely on vertical walls or panels.
Note: To achieve the best bond, ensure the wall is clean, dry, and free from dust. Otherwise, the cork may not stick as expected. This adhesive layer works best on smooth, dust-free surfaces such as plasterboard or furniture panels.
CAN THE 8MM SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLL BE USED ON UNEVEN WALLS?
Unfortunately not. Self-adhesive cork performs best on flat, smooth and clean walls. Curved or textured surfaces aren’t suitable – the adhesive won’t grip properly, and the cork may eventually come away.
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED CORK THICKNESS FOR A NOTICE BOARD?
Cork rolls between 5–10mm thick are the ideal choice for notice boards. They’re thick enough to hold drawing pins securely. Thinner options may not keep pins firmly in place.
WHAT MAKES THE BEST BACKING FOR A CORK NOTICE BOARD?
Fibreboard is the perfect backing material — it’s lightweight, strong, and makes inserting pins effortless. It gives great support to the cork and won’t warp over time. You can also use a cork sheet as an alternative backing if preferred.
WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE – A SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLL OR SEPARATE SHEETS?
For larger areas, a roll provides a continuous, seamless finish with minimal joins. For smaller projects, cork sheets are easier to position neatly and adjust during installation.
DOES THE 8MM SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLL NEED TO BE ACCLIMATISED BEFORE USE?
Yes, it should. Allow the roll to rest for at least 72 hours to adapt to the room’s temperature and humidity. Skipping this step could result in the cork curling, lifting, or detaching after installation.
HOW DO I INSTALL A SELF-ADHESIVE CORK ROLL ON A WALL?
First, make sure your wall is smooth, clean, and completely dry. Any dirt or unevenness can affect the adhesive’s grip.
Next, peel away the backing carefully and press the cork firmly onto the wall, starting from the centre and working outwards to remove air pockets.
Finally, check that the edges are secure and smooth down any loose spots. Let the adhesive set for 24 hours before using the board fully.
HOW CAN I FLATTEN A CORK ROLL BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Unroll the cork onto a flat, dry surface such as the floor or a table. Place flat, heavy items – like books or boards – evenly on top.
Ensure the weight is spread evenly to prevent marks or dents. Leave it for around 24 hours so it lies perfectly flat before you fit it to your wall.
CAN SELF-ADHESIVE CORK BE USED OUTDOORS?
No – it’s intended for indoor use only. It performs brilliantly indoors, but exposure to sunlight, moisture or changing weather conditions will cause the adhesive to deteriorate quickly.
If you’re after something weatherproof, choose expanded cork façade panels. They’re designed to handle outdoor conditions all year round.
