WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF USING CORK VARNISH FLOORING?

Its main role is to maintain the fresh look of cork for a longer time and to boost its durability to daily use. The varnish creates a solid protective coat that helps keep cork in excellent shape for many years.

ON WHICH SURFACES CAN CORK FLOOR VARNISH BE APPLIED?

It works well on both cork and wooden parquet floors. Cork’s natural porosity allows the varnish to soak in, forming a protective film. It’s especially suitable for areas that get frequent foot traffic, such as hallways, kitchens, or living rooms.

Note: apply only to untreated cork. If the surface has already been varnished (either at purchase or previously at home), the fresh layer will not bond correctly.

WHAT LOOK DOES NATURAL CORK VARNISH GIVE?

It delivers a semi-matt effect, adding a refined, understated appearance. Semi-matt is better at masking small scratches and dust than high gloss, while still keeping the floor’s natural character.

CAN I APPLY VARNISH FOR CORK FLOOR TILES ON MY OWN?

Absolutely – it’s a ready-to-use single-component product, so you can use it straight from the container. There’s no need for mixing with hardeners or catalysts (as required with two-part varnishes). It’s easier, faster, and you won’t risk mismeasuring ingredients.

HOW DO I GET THE FLOOR READY BEFORE VARNISHING?

Ensure the surface is even and completely dry – ideally, the moisture level should be under 12% for proper bonding.

Clean off any previous coatings, including oil, wax, silicone, grease, dust, and other debris. The cleaner the surface, the better the finish will be and the longer it will last.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO APPLY CORK VARNISH?

Give the varnish a good shake before you begin.
If the cork has been fixed to the subfloor, make sure the adhesive is fully dry before proceeding.
Roll on three coats of varnish. After the first coat, let the floor rest overnight so any moisture can dissipate and the cork can settle. This helps achieve the right coating thickness and long-lasting finish. Before applying the final coat, gently sand the surface.

HOW MUCH AREA DOES WS EASYFINISH COVER?

Typically, you’ll need between 80 and 120 ml for every 1 m², depending on how porous the surface is and how it’s applied. This amount is for a single layer – total consumption will be higher if you apply the advised three coats.

SHOULD I MIX THE VARNISH WITH ANYTHING?

No – it’s ready to use straight from the container and must not be thinned.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE CORK FLOOR VARNISH?

Store at normal room temperature (or a little cooler), but always above +5°C. Keep it away from frost, as it’s a water-based product.

#1 GIVE YOUR CORK THE RIGHT KIND OF CARE

Cork isn’t demanding, but it does benefit from the right treatment. This varnish is one such choice. Not every product works well – some are too brittle or fail to bond properly, leaving the surface unprotected.

WS EasyFinish is a water-based option, so you avoid the heavy, lingering odour common with solvent-based alternatives. It dries quickly and is kinder to the cork itself, with no danger of solvents “upsetting” the material or altering its natural tone.
