WHAT ARE THE USES FOR CORK BOARD ROLL?
There are plenty! The most popular include:
- Interior decoration and finishing — as an alternative to paint or wallpaper.
- Acoustic and thermal insulation — helps to dampen sound and insulate walls. If you're mainly looking for cork for insulation purposes, we recommend thicknesses of 10 mm or more.

IS CORK ROLL SUITABLE FOR MAKING A CORK BOARD?
Yes — if you’re looking to create a large board, cork roll is the perfect choice. We recommend a thickness of 5 to 10 mm — the “gold standard” — to ensure that pins stay firmly in place (without going all the way through). The surface remains durable and easy to use.
For a durable result, it’s worth adding a soft backing board (such as fibreboard or cork board) underneath — this will make the whole structure more stable.
5MM CORK ROLL OR SHEETS — WHICH IS BETTER?
It depends on what you want to create. If you’re planning a larger project — for example, a big cork board or covering an entire wall — a roll is the better choice. You’ll have fewer joins, and the surface will look more seamless. Before installing, it’s a good idea to unroll the cork and leave it weighted down for a while to help it flatten out.
Cork sheets, on the other hand, are better for smaller projects where joins aren’t as important.
WHY DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE THE CORK 5MM BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Cork is a natural material — it “works”, meaning it adapts to the temperature and humidity of the room. That’s why it needs around three days to adjust to the conditions in your home. This ensures that once it’s fixed to the wall, it adheres properly. Skipping this step could lead to issues such as the cork peeling away from the surface.
HOW DO I INSTALL CORK BOARD ROLL ON A WALL?
The best method is to use a contact adhesive, such as Wakol D-3540.
Step-by-step guide:
- Before you begin, make sure the wall is clean, dry and smooth. The better the preparation, the better the cork will adhere.
- Apply Wakol adhesive to both the wall and the back of the cork roll. Wait until the adhesive becomes clear.
- Press the cork onto the wall, smoothing it out as you go.
- Leave to dry — Wakol takes around 24 hours to fully cure.
Average adhesive consumption is 150–250 g/m². This means 0.8 kg of adhesive will cover around 4 m², and a 2.5 kg pack will cover approximately 12.5 m² of surface.
WILL 5MM CORK ROLL STICK TO UNEVEN WALLS?
We do not recommend applying cork to uneven walls. The surface should be smooth, clean, dry and even.
HOW DO I CLEAN CORK?
It’s easy — cork is antistatic, so it doesn’t attract dust. Simply wipe it occasionally with a slightly damp cloth or use a soft duster.
HOW DO I CUT CORK 5MM?
All you need are standard tools — for example, a utility knife. Just be sure to cut the cork on a stable surface.
WHAT GRAIN SIZE DOES CORK ROLL HAVE?
Cork roll is medium-grain — durable enough to hold pins securely and withstand everyday use, while still looking smart and stylish on the wall.
