Got questions? We’ve got the answers!

WHAT ARE BITCORK PANELS?

They’re panels designed specifically for acoustic insulation. Each one is made up of three layers: a butyl core at the centre, with natural cork on both sides. This combination is no coincidence – both materials are excellent insulators, and together they deliver even greater results, especially when it comes to soundproofing.

The panels come in a range of thicknesses, making it easy to choose the right option for your needs.

WHAT ARE BITCORK SOUND DAMPENING BOARDS BEST SUITED FOR?

This type of BitCork panel is ideal for home use – especially if you want to block out unwanted noise or improve the acoustics within a room.

WHAT THICKNESS OF ACOUSTIC CORK WALL PANELS SHOULD I CHOOSE?

If you’re after a budget-friendly option, go for 6 mm. The 8 mm version offers an upgrade while still remaining cost-effective. For optimal soundproofing, 10 mm is an excellent choice. Meanwhile, 12 mm is the premium solution for home applications.

DOES ACOUSTIC CORK ON WALLS PROVIDE GOOD INSULATION?

Yes, cork is an excellent material for acoustic insulation. Its natural, porous structure allows sound waves to enter its microscopic cells, where they are dispersed. Cork helps soundproof a room, reduces echo, and makes outside noise far less noticeable.

HOW TO INSTALL BITCORK ACOUSTIC WALL COVERING?

The best option is to use contact adhesive – Wakol D-3540 is the most reliable choice. It works perfectly even with heavier panels that have a butyl core, ensuring the whole structure is stable and durable.

It’s important to make sure the surface you’re attaching the panels to is clean, dry, and even. This way, the adhesive bonds properly and the panels stay firmly in place.

CAN SOUNDPROOFING WALL PANELS BE USED IN THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOM?

Yes, BitCork panels can be installed in virtually any room, including kitchens and bathrooms. However, it’s important not to leave empty spaces between the panels and the wall in humid areas. Moisture can build up in such gaps, which over time may cause problems and require the panels to be replaced.

You should also avoid direct contact with water (for example, splashing around a bathtub or shower enclosure).

WHY IS BUTYL USED IN CORK PANELS FOR SOUNDPROOFING?

Butyl has a very dense yet flexible structure, which makes it highly effective at blocking sound transmission. It is particularly good at reducing noise across a wide range of frequencies, including low tones, which are usually the most difficult to dampen.

When combined with natural cork, the results are even better – butyl blocks the sound, while cork disperses and partially absorbs it, making the panel far more effective.

Do you ever feel like your home is never truly quiet? Constant distractions make it harder to concentrate, cause fatigue more quickly, and even prevent sleep from being fully restorative. Thanks to the combination of natural cork and a butyl core, BitCork panels effectively soundproof rooms, creating a space that supports focus and proper rest.

Black text WHY is it worth it?» with cork on the right on a white background.

#1 PEACE AND QUIET AT HOME

We often only start to appreciate silence once it’s gone. Street noise, neighbours’ conversations, footsteps in the stairwell – all of it can be more draining than it seems. Yet less noise means better conditions for work, study, and everyday life. If you work remotely, read a book, or your child is revising for a test, quiet helps you focus. Without constant distractions, it’s easier to stay concentrated and finish tasks more quickly.

Silence also plays a crucial role in sleep. When the bedroom is calm, it’s easier to drift off and your rest becomes deeper. You wake up feeling more refreshed and with more energy.

And then there’s the matter of privacy. When sounds from your flat don’t escape outside, you can feel more at ease. Conversations stay within your home, allowing you to feel truly comfortable in your own space.

#2 COMBINATION OF CORK AND BUTYL

BitCork panels bring together two materials that perfectly complement each other. Cork and butyl have different acoustic properties, and when combined, the results are even more impressive.

Cork is most effective at dealing with mid and high frequencies. Its porous structure allows sound waves to penetrate the material and scatter, which reduces echo and makes sounds feel softer and more natural. Butyl, on the other hand, works differently. Dense and flexible, it excels at blocking low-frequency sounds – the ones that are usually the most troublesome, such as booming bass, vibrations, or the thud of footsteps.

#3 MORE EFFECTIVE THAN FOAMS

There are plenty of soundproofing materials on the market, but not all perform the same. Low-quality foams, thin plastic mats, or lightweight boards are often used. Sure, they might save you a bit of money at first, but in the long run they simply don’t hold up. Their effectiveness quickly declines, and after a few years – sometimes even just months – they need patching up or complete replacement.

Butyl and cork, when combined, create a material that is both effective and durable. Unlike flimsy foams or mats, they provide far superior acoustic insulation compared to the cheaper, more common alternatives.

#4 CORK – A NATURAL MATERIAL

That’s right – cork is a completely natural material, and here we’d like to bust a common myth. Harvesting cork doesn’t require felling a single tree. The bark is carefully stripped by hand, leaving the tree unharmed and perfectly healthy. The bark then regenerates, making the process entirely renewable. This is a major advantage over other materials (such as wood), where logging is unavoidable.

Cork is an environmentally friendly choice. It’s not only renewable but also biodegradable – after years of use it doesn’t turn into waste that’s difficult to dispose of. This is particularly important compared with lightweight foams or plastics, which end up in landfills and remain there for decades. If we have the chance to reduce our environmental impact, it’s worth choosing more sustainable solutions.
