Most wall panels are made of plastic or poor quality materials – artificial shine, poor wood imitations and garish wallpapers. It’s hard to find something with real style and character that doesn’t gather dust in a heartbeat. Expanda Decorative Cork has what can’t be faked – a deep dark-brown colour, an organic texture and natural elegance. The result? A wall that catches the eye, not the dust.

WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY MEAN THAT THE CORK IS “EXPANDED”?
Expanded cork is a natural material made from the bark of the cork oak tree — the same bark used to produce traditional agglomerated cork (commonly found in notice boards and coasters), but it differs in both its manufacturing process and appearance.
Small granules of cork are heated to a very high temperature, causing them to “expand” like popcorn. The natural resin within the cork – suberin – binds the pieces together. This process gives the material its distinctive deep, dark-brown colour without the need for dyes. Importantly, no glues or chemical additives are used.
Expanded cork is typically used for insulation. However, its refined shade and unique texture make it an excellent decorative material as well. That’s exactly why the decorative version was created – Expanda Cork.
HOW TO PREPARE THE WALL BEFORE INSTALLING DECORATIVE EXPANDED CORK?
The surface should be dry, even, clean and free from dust – with no grease, dirt or traces of old paint. It’s also worth checking that the wall doesn’t have any loose plaster or signs of dampness.
If the surface is highly absorbent (for example, bare plaster or smooth skim), it’s best to prime it beforehand to ensure the adhesive bonds properly.
DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE EXPANDA BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Yes, this is a very important step. Leave the panels in the room where they’ll be installed for 72 hours before fitting. During this time, the cork will adjust to the room’s temperature and humidity, ensuring it won’t warp or come loose after installation.
HOW TO INSTALL EXPANDED DECORATIVE CORK ON A WALL?
Expanda panels are best installed using a contact adhesive, such as Wakol D3540. Apply the adhesive both to the wall surface and to the back of the panels.
The average adhesive consumption is between 150 and 250 g/m², which means a 2.5 kg container covers approximately 12.5 m², while a 0.8 kg container covers around 4 m² of surface area.
IS EXPANDED CORK HEAVY?
Not at all – quite the opposite. Cork is a lightweight material that doesn’t put strain on walls. Compared to other decorative finishes, such as oak or ash wood panels, or 3D gypsum panels, cork is significantly lighter.
IS CORK AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MATERIAL?
Yes – it’s actually one of the most eco-friendly materials available in interior design. Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree without cutting the trees down. The bark is removed by hand, with great respect for nature – the work is carried out by skilled craftsmen rather than machines. It’s a calm, traditional process, not a mass-production one.
DO THE PANELS GATHER DUST QUICKLY?
No – cork is naturally antistatic, so it doesn’t attract dust. As a result, the panels require very little cleaning. This is also great news for allergy sufferers, as cork’s antistatic properties help maintain cleaner air and reduce the accumulation of allergens in the room.
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY HIDE PANEL JOINTS?
It’s worth remembering that slightly visible joints are a natural feature of cork – however, with proper installation, they become far less noticeable. To minimise any differences between panels, leave them in the room for 72 hours before installation so they can adjust to the temperature and humidity. This helps the joints blend in much better.
CAN EXPANDA CORK PANELS BE USED IN THE KITCHEN OR BATHROOM?
DOES EXPANDA DECORATIVE CORK HAVE INSULATING PROPERTIES?
Expanda decorative cork is made from the same natural material as traditional expanded cork, so it retains its basic insulating qualities. However, its primary purpose is decorative use.
If you’re looking for a material specifically for thermal or acoustic insulation, a thicker, standard expanded cork would be a better choice.
Cold panels, colourful plastic imitations and “trendy” wallpapers – there’s no shortage of options, yet most lack soul and character. The result? An interior that might be fashionable (for a moment) but doesn’t feel like yours. It’s missing warmth, cosiness and authenticity. Expanda Decorative Cork is made from 100% natural material with a refined dark tone and organic texture. It brings genuine atmosphere and character to your space.

#1 A LOOK THAT MAKES AN IMPRESSION
In a world where walls can be decorated with just about anything – from colourful wallpaper to shiny 3D panels – Expanda decorative cork stands apart. It’s a material that doesn’t try to shout with colour or shape; instead, it draws the eye with its natural elegance. Its deep, dark shade and organic texture carry a sense of refinement, evoking calm and a premium feel.
It’s a choice for those who dislike repetition. Every wall finished with Expanda cork looks different – it has its own rhythm, texture and play of light. The result is unique, because nature can’t be copied. This isn’t just another shade from a paint catalogue – it’s a natural material that brings class and individuality to any interior. Guests often ask, “What’s that material?”, because such a texture isn’t something you see every day. The deep colour and organic surface make an Expanda cork wall eye-catching in an elegant yet understated way.
#2 VERSATILE, SAFE AND ALLERGY-FRIENDLY
Expanda decorative cork is a material that fits almost anywhere. You can use it in a bedroom, living room, office, restaurant or café – and it always looks natural yet elegant. It complements a wide range of interior styles, from modern minimalism to eco-inspired or boho spaces.
Beyond its appearance, it has another major advantage – it’s safe. Cork is a 100% natural material that doesn’t emit harmful substances, so you can be sure the air indoors stays clean and toxin-free.
It’s also antistatic, meaning it doesn’t attract dust or dirt particles. Thanks to this, Expanda panels are a perfect choice for allergy sufferers and anyone who values fresh, healthy air at home.
#3 A TRULY ECO MATERIAL
In a world full of plastic, synthetics and mass production, Expanda decorative cork is a genuine breath of fresh air – quite literally. In interior design, it’s becoming harder to find something truly natural rather than just “eco” in name. Cork is the very opposite of artificial – it comes straight from nature and returns to it without harm.
No trees are cut down to harvest cork. Only the bark of the cork oak is carefully removed – by hand, with great respect and precision. After each harvest, the tree naturally regenerates, producing a new layer of bark within 9 to 12 years. This cycle continues throughout the tree’s lifetime, which can span an impressive 150–200 years.
Expanda cork helps free interiors from plastic and artificial materials. It offers the chance to surround yourself with something real – something from nature. It’s a choice that truly matters: for the planet, for your health, and for everyday wellbeing.
