We’re sure you’ve got a few questions, so let us answer them.
WHICH IS BETTER – CORKOLEUM OR FLOOR PANELS?
It depends, of course. Corkoleum is better if you’d like a floor without visible joints. Fewer joints mean not only a neater look but also a reduced risk of moisture ingress or dirt build-up, which makes cleaning and upkeep easier.
However, if visible joints don’t bother you, panels can be a good choice too, as you can usually install them easily without adhesive (e.g. floating panels).
HOW DOES CORKOLEUM COMPARE WITH OTHER FLOORING MATERIALS?
Cork roll flooring is naturally soft, which translates into excellent walking comfort. Unlike laminate, parquet or ceramic tiles, which can feel cold and hard, corkoleum provides a warm, springy, pleasant surface underfoot.
What’s more, thanks to its insulating properties, corkoleum helps to keep the floor warm and dampens unwanted noise. Other materials, such as vinyl, can’t match corkoleum for insulation.
Cork flooring, owing to its unique composition, is a durable and eco-friendly option for those seeking to reduce their environmental impact. A cork roll floor covering in particular allows for quick and easy installation, making it a practical choice for many households.
HOW DO I GLUE DOWN CORK FLOORING?
Before you start installing, let the corkoleum rolls rest for 72 hours in a dry, well-ventilated room. Keep the cork stored upright in its original packaging.
To glue the cork covering, prepare the following tools: a utility knife, pencil, tape measure, ruler, paint roller, paint tray and a bucket. You can also use our complete kit for gluing, painting or varnishing cork.
#1 The subfloor must be level and free from dust, grease, paint or any other material that could reduce adhesive bond.
#2 After unrolling the cork, wait a few minutes for it to lie flat. Check in daylight for any visible damage.
#3 Apply the adhesive to the subfloor. Choosing between Wakol D 3540 and Mapei Adesilex G19 for corkoleum depends on the substrate type: Wakol is recommended for porous and non-porous substrates as well as existing, well-bonded floor coverings, whereas Mapei Adesilex G19, a two-component polyurethane adhesive, is intended for rubber and PVC substrates. If you plan to install with an overlap, the glued area should be 5 centimetres narrower than the corkoleum’s width. Overlap installation is a method where two strips of covering overlap and, after aligning the pattern and cutting precisely, the join is almost invisible.
#4 Remove all waste generated during installation.
#5 Apply a topcoat 24 hours after laying the floor, following the varnish manufacturer’s instructions.
IS CORK FLOORING SAFE FOR CHILDREN AND PETS?
Yes, a cork floor roll covering is an excellent choice for children and pets – it’s naturally soft and elastic, providing additional cushioning. This helps protect little ones when they fall and feels comfortable on our four-legged friends’ paws. Cork is also hypoallergenic, which is very important here.
DOES CORK HELP KEEP THE FLOOR WARM?
Absolutely! Thanks to its natural structure, corkoleum offers extra thermal insulation, making a cork floor pleasantly warm. Even on colder days you can enjoy the comfort of walking on a warm floor without needing socks!
DOES CORK FLOORING HAVE ANTI-SLIP PROPERTIES?
Definitely yes! Cork contains microscopic air cells that increase friction, and the elasticity of corkoleum helps distribute foot pressure more evenly, which helps prevent slips. Installing a cork roll floor covering can further improve these anti-slip properties, ensuring greater safety in living spaces.
DOES CORKOLEUM REQUIRE SPECIAL SUBFLOOR PREPARATION?
If your subfloor isn’t perfectly smooth and level, it will need to be levelled. It’s worth spending time on proper preparation, as irregularities in the substrate can later show through on the corkoleum surface. You can achieve this by sanding, applying a smoothing compound, or using a self-levelling screed.
REMEMBER! The smoother, the better – this will ensure your cork roll adheres properly and looks flawless. Also make sure the substrate is sufficiently dry before using adhesive (always check the adhesive instructions beforehand).
IS CORKOLEUM SUITABLE FOR UNDERFLOOR HEATING?
Corkoleum can be used with water-based underfloor heating systems that operate by circulating hot water beneath the cork roll flooring. With water heating, temperature changes are more gradual, which is safer for cork floors.
ATTENTION! Corkoleum is not suitable for electric underfloor heating, as there is a risk of material damage due to rapid temperature increases.
HOW DO I REMOVE CORKOLEUM FROM THE FLOOR?
#1 Prepare the tools: a scraper or putty knife, protective gloves, and a heat gun or industrial hairdryer.
#2 Empty the room and wear a protective mask and goggles.
#3 If the corkoleum is firmly bonded to the cork floor, use a heat gun or industrial hairdryer to warm the adhesive. Heat will make the glue easier to remove.
#4 Carefully lift and remove the covering using the scraper or putty knife.
#5 Remove adhesive residues with an appropriate glue solvent and clean the floor. Work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the substrate.
CAN CORK FLOORING FADE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT?
Cork is relatively resistant to UV rays; however, like other natural materials, cork roll flooring can gradually fade under direct sunlight. Compared with some other flooring materials, such as certain types of wood or laminate, cork retains its colour and appearance for longer, even in bright, sunny rooms.
To keep your cork floor looking beautiful for years, use curtains or blinds. This helps reduce direct sun exposure to the floor. It’s a simple way to boost protection and prolong the colour life of the cork covering.
IS CORK FLOORING SUITABLE FOR ALL ROOMS, INCLUDING BATHROOMS AND KITCHENS?
Cork flooring is well suited to interiors where the temperature ranges between 15 °C and 25 °C. Corkoleum is moisture-resistant in rooms where relative humidity is between 40% and 60%. Avoid direct water exposure on the covering to enjoy the floor’s functionality for as long as possible. In kitchens, where the floor may be prone to spills, corkoleum is also a reliable choice thanks to its ease of cleaning.
CAN CORKOLEUM BE USED IN HIGH-TRAFFIC AREAS SUCH AS OFFICES OR SHOPS?
Although cork flooring is more resilient and durable than many other natural materials, it may not be the best choice for very high-traffic areas, such as some offices or shops. It stands up to everyday use, but in heavy-traffic environments it may wear more quickly.
HOW DO I CLEAN A CORK FLOOR?
Regular vacuuming and gentle cleaning are all you need to keep your cork floor looking great for years. Ideally, vacuum every few days to prevent dirt build-up that could cause scratches.
When it’s time to clean, use water with a mild detergent, such as CareRemover, which works very well on heavily soiled cork floors.
DOES CORKOLEUM DEFORM UNDER FURNITURE?
Thanks to its flexibility, corkoleum generally copes well with the weight of furniture. However, like any floor, it can deform under the constant pressure of heavy items. To avoid permanent indentations, we recommend using protective pads under furniture legs, especially under heavier pieces. This will better protect the floor against indentations and other damage.
The worst thing in the morning is the cold floor beneath our feet. Corkoleum solves this problem, as cork is naturally warm and soft. In addition, you have a wide choice of patterns, so you are sure to find something that blends perfectly with your interior.
For a cork flooring roll, this solution offers resilience and a stylish look for those who wish to combine comfort with elegance in their living or working spaces.

#1 SILENCE, WARMTH AND COMFORT
Do you enjoy the comfort of walking barefoot at home, while avoiding the unpleasant chill of stone or the creaking, slippery feel of wood underfoot? Corkoleum makes cork flooring warm even on cold days, making it the ideal solution for barefoot enthusiasts. A cork roll is also exceptionally quiet, with footsteps barely audible, ensuring peace and privacy at home.
Thanks to its natural soundproofing ability, cork flooring effectively reduces echo and absorbs noise. Corkoleum is also an excellent choice for eco-friendly homes, as it provides good thermal insulation. This will help lower energy consumption and reduce bills.
#2 EASY INSTALLATION
Corkoleum is available in rolls (the price is for one roll of 7.7 m²), allowing you to cover large areas without worrying about multiple unsightly joints.
Cork flooring has a low thickness, which makes installation much easier – even in spaces where every millimetre counts. The polyurethane top layer, 0.5 mm thick, protects against wear, scratches and other damage, making the floor easy to clean.
The combination of cork with recycled rubber ensures shock-absorbing properties, resulting in incredible walking comfort. Especially in homes where children run or elderly people move around, slips are easy to happen. Corkoleum helps minimise the risk of slipping.
#3 BEAUTY, FUNCTIONALITY AND DURABILITY
This is exactly what Corkoleum offers! Thanks to its natural resistance to moisture and mould, you can install it even in the kitchen or bathroom.
When unexpected accidents occur, such as dropping a heavy object, Corkoleum is more resistant than ceramic tiles. Tiles may crack or break, while Corkoleum will not deteriorate as easily. Laminate can be vulnerable to moisture, and parquet requires regular care – Corkoleum does not.
#4 NATURALLY SAFE
We know that health and safety come first. By choosing Corkoleum, you are opting for a clean environment, thanks to the cork’s natural hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. In addition, cork is naturally anti-static, which means it does not attract dust or allergens.
Corkoleum is a safe choice for health – it does not emit harmful volatile organic compounds. Its structure perfectly cushions impacts, an invaluable advantage for your spine, making walking barefoot truly pleasant.
And thanks to additional treatment that increases water resistance, Corkoleum is also easy to maintain, making it a great choice for every room – from the living room to the bathroom.
#5 AN ECO-FRIENDLY CHOICE WITH CORK FLOORING
Did you know that cork oak bark, from which cork is harvested, is renewable? Every 9–12 years, it is harvested without harming the tree, and during the process of forming new bark, it absorbs five times more CO₂ than other tree species. By choosing Corkoleum, you are contributing to a better future not only for yourself but also for our planet.
