Questions in mind? We're here to clarify.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A NATURAL CORK EXPANSION JOINT?
A cork expansion joint is a flexible component placed between sections of flooring — such as between wood planks or laminate boards — to accommodate natural shifts due to room temperature and humidity. This helps prevent cracks and stress fractures, keeping your floor structurally sound and looking pristine.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE A CORK STRIP AND WHEN LIQUID CORK?
Installing a new floor? Then a cork strip is your go-to solution. It should be added during the fitting process. Liquid cork, on the other hand, is best for touching up existing gaps — particularly in awkward areas such as corners or pipework cut-outs.
WHERE IS A CORK EXPANSION STRIP MOST USEFUL?
Use a cork strip to provide a tidy transition between differing floor materials — for instance, where tile meets timber or stone. It ensures a neat visual break while also performing an important practical role. Ideal for wood, laminate, ceramic, and concrete flooring combinations.
SHOULD CORK BE ACCLIMATISED BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Absolutely — leave it in the room for at least 72 hours before installing. Otherwise, movement in the material may lead to small gaps or surface inconsistencies once it adjusts to the climate. It also reduces the risk of draughts, moisture ingress, or thermal loss.
HOW TO PROPERLY FIT A NATURAL CORK EXPANSION STRIP?
What you’ll need: a quality adhesive, measuring tape and a craft knife. The strip is best added once a section of your flooring is in place. Apply it to the surface level, not directly to the subfloor. You can varnish the cork with a suitable sealant for extra protection against grime or moisture.
The recommended expansion gap is between 5 mm and 10 mm.
WHICH ADHESIVE WORKS BEST?
While most wood adhesives will suffice, we advise using specialised cork adhesives — hybrid formulations tend to offer long-lasting strength and flexibility.
WHY CHOOSE CORK OVER METAL STRIPS?
Cork is far lighter than aluminium or steel strips, making it much easier to handle and install, especially in DIY or residential settings.
Unlike metal, cork doesn't conduct heat or cold, so it's more comfortable to walk on and contributes to better insulation overall.
Metal can corrode over time, particularly in damp conditions, whereas cork is naturally moisture-resistant and won't rust or degrade — a smart, low-maintenance choice.
HOW TO AVOID CORK SPLINTERING OR DAMAGING?
Ensure the area is clean, smooth and dry before applying the strip. Avoid uneven surfaces or excessive pressure during fitting. Handle the cork gently to maintain its structure and prevent crumbling.
WHAT COLOUR IS THE CORK EXPANSION JOINT?
Our standard finish is natural cork brown. If you prefer a different tone, you can easily customise it using paint designed for cork surfaces.
The natural cork expansion joint for parquet floors is more than just a smart practical feature to safeguard your flooring — it also brings a subtle sense of nature and graceful sophistication into your home. Discover how else cork can enhance your living space.

#1 BUILT TO LAST
Cork expansion joints are an enduring and reliable way to fill gaps between different surfaces. Straightforward to fit and tough by nature, they provide lasting protection for your floor — helping it retain its appearance for many years.
What’s more, cork is resistant to moisture and has excellent insulating properties against both heat and sound — making everyday life a touch more comfortable and quiet.
The natural flexibility of cork allows it to accommodate floor movement without cracking or splitting. This means your floor remains structurally sound and visually appealing over time.
As cork is inherently anti-static, it doesn’t attract dust, making it an ideal option for allergy sufferers and helping to improve indoor air quality too.
#2 SUBTLE STYLE & CLEAN FINISH
The join between tiles and wooden panels is often overlooked — but a neatly integrated cork joint creates a polished and tidy effect that lifts the look of the room. Guests will notice the attention to detail. And when it comes to upkeep, cork is very easy to clean — a simple wipe with a damp cloth will do.
#3 A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE
Natural cork is a plant-based material harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree. The harvesting process is done gently, without cutting the tree down — allowing it to regenerate and continue growing. In fact, such trees can absorb up to five times more CO2 than untreated ones. A real win for the planet and for conscious consumers.
Every cork product you bring into your home is like inviting a piece of nature indoors. Not only is cork eco-friendly and biodegradable, but it also breaks down naturally — all without harmful substances or artificial chemicals. That’s one more reason to breathe easy and feel good about your space.
#4 SAFE BY NATURE
Crafted from completely natural materials, cork expansion joints are safe and non-toxic — a wise pick for homes that value wellness and environmental integrity. Whether your décor leans eco or modern, cork suits all styles.
Thanks to being hypoallergenic and free from volatile emissions, cork is gentle on the air you breathe — giving you and your family a healthier and more comfortable environment to enjoy, day after day.
