IN WHAT APPLICATIONS IS ROLLED CORK MATERIAL USED?

Cork — especially in thinner rolls (typically 0.8–4 mm) — is ideal for:

Covering walls (as both a decorative and protective layer),
Finishing noticeboards (as a decorative surface) and creating pin-friendly surfaces,
Industrial and manufacturing uses (e.g. gaskets, thinner insulating layers, and other technical applications),
DIY and craft projects,
Refurbishing furniture (used as a veneer),
Producing cork decorations — such as tags, ornaments, and similar items,
Creating coasters and placemats,
Adding non-slip elements (e.g. under furniture).

CORK WALL COVERING ROLL VS CORK SHEETS — WHICH IS BETTER?

Rolled cork is more practical for larger projects — it minimises the number of joins and provides a continuous surface. Just remember that before use, the roll needs to be flattened out (for example, by unrolling it and weighting it down for a few hours). Cork sheets, on the other hand, are better suited to smaller projects.

DO YOU OFFER SELF-ADHESIVE ROLLED CORK?

Yes, we also offer rolled cork with a self-adhesive backing.

IS ROLLED CORK MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR MAKING A CORKBOARD?

Yes, it is — though for corkboards we recommend a thickness of 5 to 10 mm, as it holds pins more effectively and offers better durability. Thinner rolls are used as a decorative layer for large pin boards.

HOW CAN I CUT CORK ACCURATELY?

For thinner rolls, a cork knife or a sharp utility knife (such as a wallpaper knife) will do the job — just make sure the blade is sharp.

CAN CORK WALL COVERING ROLL BE PAINTED?

Absolutely — cork can be painted. The best results are achieved with paints for cork.

WHY DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE CORK BEFORE INSTALLATION?

Allowing the cork to acclimatise for 72 hours is an essential step — it helps the material adjust to the room’s conditions. This greatly reduces the risk of later warping or detachment from the wall (unacclimatised cork may come away from the surface).

HOW DO I INSTALL CORK WALL COVERING ROLL?

The best method is to use contact adhesive — for example, Wakol D-3540.

Preparing the surface: Ensure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth.
Use the adhesive: Apply Wakol D-3540 adhesive to both the wall and the back of the cork roll, using a brush or roller to create an even layer. Typical adhesive consumption is 150–250 g/m² — meaning 0.8 kg will cover around 4 m², and a 2.5 kg tub will cover roughly 12.5 m² of surface.
Wait for the adhesive to turn transparent: Only then should you begin installation.
Installing the roll: Gently press the cork roll onto the wall. The adhesive takes around 24 hours to fully cure.

WILL ROLLED CORK STICK TO AN UNEVEN WALL?

We do not recommend applying cork to uneven walls. It’s important that the surface is smooth, flat, and clean — otherwise, the cork may not adhere properly and could come away.

HOW DO I CLEAN CORK?

A slightly damp cloth or a soft duster is all you need. Rolled cork is very easy to maintain — thanks to its antistatic properties, it naturally repels dust.

IS CORK SUITABLE FOR BATHROOMS AND KITCHENS?

It works well in areas where humidity stays between 40 and 60 percent. However, it’s important to avoid soaking the cork with water.

HOW CAN I PROTECT CORK EFFECTIVELY?

It’s a good idea to use wood treatments — such as waxes, varnishes, stains, or oils — to help guard against moisture and damage. We also recommend using a care wax for ongoing protection.

WHAT IS THE GRAIN SIZE OF ROLLED CORK?

Rolled cork has a medium grain structure. This makes it ideal for applications such as corkboards, as it resists crumbling.
