Cork leather fabric

The choice of fabrics and veneers on the market is VAST – countless colours, patterns and textures. Yet when you start looking for something more natural, things suddenly become tricky. A plastic sheen, a chemical smell, seasonal trends that fall out of favour almost as quickly as they appear. And all you really want is a material that stands the test of time and doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Natural Cork Veneer is where aesthetics meet functionality. Whether used as cork leather, paper, or fabric for sewing, it creates a neutral, elegant foundation — without that artificial feel. It’s a category for those who want to refresh their furniture without replacing it. For anyone seeking a natural alternative to synthetic leather. And for designers and makers of bags, wallets and accessories.

Got questions? You’ll find the answers below!

WHAT IS CORK LEATHER, AND WHERE DOES IT WORK BEST?

It’s a thin cork material with a total thickness of 0.55 mm. It’s ideal wherever a slim, decorative finishing layer is needed. 0.5 mm is natural cork, while the remaining 0.05 mm is a reinforcing blend of polyester and cotton. Thanks to its minimal thickness, it doesn’t noticeably alter the dimensions of the furniture or elements you’re finishing.

It works perfectly as:

  • a veneer for furniture and doors – refreshes fronts without adding bulk,
  • a sewing material – for clothing, bags, wallets, cases and accessories with a natural feel,
  • cork paper – for decorative projects, crafts and DIY work,
  • cork veneer – as a thin and decorative finishing layer.

When should you choose a different material?

  • If you need acoustic or thermal insulation – opt for thicker cork boards (cork fabric is too thin for that purpose).
  • If you want to conceal major wall imperfections – a thin veneer won’t hide them.
  • If you’re looking for a structural material – this product is purely decorative and intended for finishing only.

If you’re unsure whether this material is right for your project, get in touch – we’ll help you choose the right solution.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE AVAILABLE OPTIONS OF CORK PAPER?

You can choose from four variants:

  • Cortex Plain – the most natural and understated option, featuring the classic look of cork.
  • Cortex Colour – subtly enlivened with delicate colour accents.
  • Cortex Silver – with visible silver inclusions that give it a modern, slightly industrial edge.
  • Cortex Gold – enhanced with elegant gold accents.

IN WHAT FORMAT IS THIS CORK FABRIC FOR SEWING SOLD?

Our cork fabric is sold by the linear metre. That means you don’t have to over-order — you simply buy exactly as much as your project requires.

The maximum length of a single roll is 17 metres. So, for example, if you order 20 linear metres, you’ll receive two rolls — one measuring 17 m and the other 3 m. It’s worth bearing this in mind if you’re planning a project that requires a seamless finish over a long stretch. Each roll is 137 cm wide.

If you’re unsure how many metres you’ll need, just drop us a message. We’ll happily help you work it out.

Natural cork has long since outgrown its role as nothing more than a wine stopper or a pinboard surface. Today, it’s used in decorative panels, insulation, and also in the form of veneer, cork paper and cork fabric for sewing.

Thin cork veneer makes it possible to refresh furniture without having to replace it. Cabinet fronts, doors, OSB panels or any surfaces in need of an aesthetic finish take on an entirely new character. At home, it adds warmth to the interior, while in a café, restaurant or office it creates a natural, calming atmosphere. It’s a way to transform a space visually without embarking on a full-scale renovation.

Cork fabric works particularly well wherever a thin finishing layer is required. It doesn’t weigh down the structure and adapts easily to the surface beneath. Where surfaces are structurally sound but simply need a change of finish, cork allows for an aesthetic refresh without major alterations.

Bag and wallet makers appreciate it for combining a natural look with a modern, responsible approach. It’s an excellent alternative to both genuine and synthetic leather, particularly if you’re looking for a plant-based material. The designs aren’t overdone either — and that’s exactly where their strength lies. The foundation is the natural texture of cork, which is organically beautiful in its own right. Colour, silver or gold accents don’t overpower the design; they simply add a subtle highlight. As a result, the material never feels visually overwhelming and can be easily adapted to a wide range of styles.

It’s also worth saying a few words about sustainability. Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak without felling the tree. It’s a renewable raw material that can be collected repeatedly. If you’re looking for a more environmentally responsible alternative to plastics, cork offers a genuinely sound choice.
