You don’t always need a major renovation to make an interior feel different. Sometimes the problem is simply that the walls look too flat, too cold or just lack a more distinctive texture. Malta Champagne Cork Panel Wall lets you change the character of the surface without adding yet another wallpaper or an artificial imitation of another material. The natural structure of cork means the wall stops being just a backdrop and genuinely influences the overall feel of the interior.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE NATURAL CORK BEFORE INSTALLATION?

  1. Transport and storage: Keep the cork panels lying flat. This will help prevent them from bending or becoming damaged.
  2. Panel acclimatisation: This is a very important step! Before installation, leave the cork in the room where it will be fitted for 72 hours. The panels will adjust to the local humidity and temperature, helping to minimise the risk of later warping or coming unstuck.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE THE WALL?

  1. Prepare the surface: Before you begin, make sure the wall is clean. Remove all traces of dust, grease and other dirt. A clean wall is essential for the cork panel adhesive to work properly. If your wall is made from absorbent materials such as concrete, plaster or brick, be sure to prime it first. Priming will improve the adhesive bond and prevent excessive absorption, helping to ensure a long-lasting installation.
  2. Level out any imperfections: Check the wall for any visible or noticeable uneven areas. If you find any, smooth them out with filler. A smooth wall is essential for a successful installation.

HOW TO INSTALL DECORATIVE CORK ON WALLS?

  1. Use the right adhesive: Choose a contact adhesive, preferably Wakol D-3540 – a specialist cork adhesive. Adhesive consumption is approximately 150 to 250 g/m². A 0.8 kg container will cover around 4 m², while a 2.5 kg container will cover approximately 12.5 m².
  2. Apply the adhesive: Use a short-pile velour roller to spread the adhesive evenly over both the wall and the back of the cork panels. This will help prevent lumps from forming.
  3. Wait: After around 10–20 minutes, the adhesive will become transparent – this means it is ready.
  4. Installation: Gently but firmly press the panels onto the wall.
  5. Drying time: Leave the panels for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to dry completely.

CAN CORK PANEL WALL BE INSTALLED ON UNEVEN WALLS?

We do not recommend installing cork on uneven surfaces. This may weaken adhesion and cause the panels to come away from the wall over time. For the best results, install cork on even and smooth walls.

WILL THE JOINTS BETWEEN THE CORK PANELS BE VISIBLE?

The joints between the cork panels on the wall are slightly visible. Acclimatising the panels for 72 hours in the room where they will be installed helps minimise the risk of gaps forming. Although very subtle joint lines may occasionally be visible, they are a natural characteristic of the material.

HOW TO KEEP CORK PANELS CLEAN?

Cleaning cork panels is a breeze, and you don’t need to do it often! A damp cloth or a soft-bristled duster is enough to quickly remove dust and everyday dirt. If you come across a stubborn stain, use a mild cleaning product.

Remember! Avoid strong chemicals such as acetone, chlorine or bleach – they may damage the cork.

If your interior feels too cold, flat or lacking in character, the problem does not always lie with the furniture or accessories. Sometimes, simply changing the wall surface is enough. Malta Champagne introduces the natural texture of cork into the room and makes the wall look less stark. As a result, the whole interior feels warmer and more welcoming, without the need to change the entire décor.

Black text WHY is it worth it?» with cork on the right on a white background.

#1 A NATURAL WALL WITH DISTINCTIVE TEXTURE

If you don’t want a dark, heavy-looking wall, but ordinary paint feels too flat, Malta Champagne is a great choice. The colour palette does not dominate the interior, while the natural structure of cork prevents the surface from looking uniform.

Cork is easy to combine with light wood, white, beige, grey or simple furniture. That is why it works well in modern, Scandinavian, minimalist, boho or Japandi interiors – but you do not need to decorate the entire room in one specific style for it to fit in.

#2 EASIER TO KEEP CLEAN

A decorative wall should not mean extra work every time you clean. The surface of cork is antistatic, so it does not attract dust as easily as some other materials. Light dirt can usually be removed with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

This is especially useful in a living room, bedroom or home office, where the wall remains exposed all the time and can gradually collect dust. You also do not need harsh cleaning products – for everyday care, gentle methods are enough.

#3 NATURAL MATERIAL INSTEAD OF AN IMITATION

PVC panels and vinyl wallpaper can reproduce the look of wood, stone or other textures very well, but they are still only imitations. Cork is something completely different. Its surface has natural variations, so it does not look identical across every section of the wall.

This is exactly what matters if you want to move away from smooth, repetitive surfaces and introduce a genuinely natural material into the interior. Cork is also more pleasant to the touch than hard plastic cladding and visually softens stark interiors.
