HOW SHOULD I PREPARE CORK WALL PANELS BEFORE INSTALLATION?

Leave the cork wall panels in the room where you plan to install them for 72 hours. This gives the natural cork time to acclimatise to the temperature and humidity in the room. Cork can naturally expand or contract slightly as conditions change, so allowing it to adjust before installation helps reduce the risk of more visible gaps, deformation or the panels coming loose later on. This way, your cork wall panels will look great for longer and you can avoid unnecessary extra costs.

HOW DO I INSTALL CORK WALL PANELS?

First, get yourself Wakol D-3540 Contact Adhesive – we’ve tested it many times, and it’s the best option.

Make sure the wall is clean, dry, smooth, and even. Remove any dirt and uneven areas.
Apply the adhesive to both the wall and the back of the cork wall panels. Use a short-pile velour roller to spread the adhesive evenly without leaving any lumps. Wakol D-3540 adhesive consumption is 150–250 g/m². A 0.8 kg pack is enough for 4 m², while a 2.5 kg pack covers around 12.5 m².
Wait until the adhesive becomes transparent on both the panels and the wall.
Gently press the cork wall panels against the wall. Make sure they are firmly attached.
Leave everything to dry completely for around 24 hours.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE THE WALL BEFORE INSTALLING CORK WALL PANELS?

First, thoroughly clean the wall to remove dust, grease and any other dirt. A clean surface is essential for good adhesive bonding.

If the wall has significant uneven areas, smooth them out before installation. This will help the cork wall panels adhere properly to the surface.

On highly absorbent surfaces, such as concrete, apply a primer. This will improve the adhesive’s grip and prevent it from soaking too deeply into the surface, which could weaken the bond.

A properly prepared wall will help your cork wall panels stay secure and look great for longer. It’s worth taking the time to get this step right!

CAN CORK BE GLUED TO ANY WALL?

No, cork wall panels are best installed on smooth, even, dry, and non-dusting surfaces. Gluing cork wall panels to uneven walls can cause problems with adhesion. Over time, the cork may start to come away from the wall, leaving you with extra repair costs and wasted time.

VISIBLE JOINTS – HOW CAN I MINIMISE THIS?

First of all, allow the cork wall panels to acclimatise for 72 hours in the room where you’ll be installing them. This gives them time to adjust to the room’s humidity and temperature, helping to reduce the risk of gaps.

During installation, also make sure the edges are properly aligned. Press the cork wall panels firmly against the surface – this will help minimise the visibility of the joins!

Keep in mind, however, that the joins between cork wall panels may still be slightly visible. This is a natural characteristic of decorative cork.
