We know you might have a few questions – here are the answers.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A “FLOATING” CORK FLOOR?

A floating cork floor is a type of cork covering that is fitted without the use of glue. Thanks to the Corkloc system, the panels simply click together, allowing a fast, tidy and straightforward installation.

FLOATING OR GLUED-DOWN CORK – WHICH IS BEST?

Floating floors are perfect if you’re looking for ease of installation and the flexibility to change layouts later on, including simple removal.

A glued-down cork floor, however, is better suited to areas with heavy foot traffic or where maximum stability is required, as it copes well with intensive use.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL CORK PANELS?

Laying cork flooring is straightforward. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Prepare the subfloor: Make sure it’s level, dry and clean. Remove dust, dirt and irregularities.
  2. PE sheet: Lay down a polyethylene sheet (at least 0.2 mm thick) for added protection against moisture. Overlap sheets by 20 cm and run them 5 cm up the wall.
  3. Starting point: Begin in a corner of the room, ideally near a main light source, to highlight the natural texture of the cork.
  4. Expansion gap: Leave a gap of about 10 mm around walls and fixed objects to allow for natural expansion and contraction.
  5. Joining the panels: Position the first panel tongue-side to the wall. Insert the next at an angle into the groove, then press down. Continue until the row is complete.
  6. New rows: Use the cut-off piece from the previous row to start the next one, ensuring staggered joints of at least 30 cm.
  7. Final row: Trim panels if necessary to fit, keeping the expansion space intact.

SHOULD THE FLOOR BE ACCLIMATISED BEFORE INSTALLATION?

Yes – allow the panels to acclimatise for 72 hours in the room where they will be fitted. This prevents later warping.

WHAT SURFACES CAN A FLOATING CORK FLOOR BE INSTALLED ON?

Cork floating floors can be laid on most hard and level surfaces such as concrete, wood, vinyl or ceramic. A PE sheet is required underneath. The advantage is that you don’t need to remove the old flooring – simply enjoy a fresh, warm look instantly.

CAN I LAY A FLOATING FLOOR ON POLYSTYRENE?

No – due to the risk of instability and uneven load distribution, this is not recommended.

IS CORK FLOORING SUITABLE FOR BATHROOMS?

Because of how the panels are constructed, we do not recommend cork floors in bathrooms.

CAN A FLOATING CORK FLOOR BE USED ON A BALCONY?

No – due to outdoor conditions and temperature shifts, cork flooring is intended exclusively for interior use.

ARE FLOATING CORK FLOORS COMPATIBLE WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING?

Yes – they can be used with water-based heating systems. Cork’s natural insulating properties ensure even heat distribution and improve energy efficiency.

Note: They should not be combined with electric heating systems, as sudden temperature changes can damage the material.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR CORK FLOORING?

Cork flooring is low maintenance. Sweep regularly and clean with a slightly damp mop. Avoid harsh cleaning agents. For best results, we recommend our specialised cork care products.

IS IT PET-FRIENDLY?

Definitely! Floating cork floors are ideal for households with pets. They are easy to clean, cosy underfoot, and provide a warm, comfortable surface for your four-legged friends.

ARE THERE ANY LIMITATIONS?

Cork is resistant to moisture and temperature changes, but direct water exposure and prolonged sunlight should be avoided to prevent fading and damage.

We’ve addressed your questions and shown you how floating cork floors can be added to your home with ease and countless benefits.

See how our flooring solutions can elevate your lifestyle, giving you much more than just a regular floor covering!

#1 SUSTAINABILITY MEETS WELL-BEING

By choosing our cork flooring panels, you’re making a commitment to both well-being and eco-friendly living. Cork is a renewable, biodegradable material sourced responsibly from Portugal — a smart, sustainable decision for your home.

Its antibacterial and anti-static qualities help create a healthier environment indoors, reducing the chances of allergies and asthma. Cork floors are the perfect option for anyone aiming for a healthier lifestyle.

#2 LONG-TERM COMFORT INVESTMENT

Opting for our floating cork floors with the Corkloc system means enjoying an easy installation and investing in long-lasting everyday comfort. This clever system provides reliable stability and a timeless look, outperforming many other floating floors thanks to its natural insulation.

Our panels are designed to resist wear and humidity, ensuring daily warmth and peace of mind. Plus, the heat-retaining properties of cork make walking barefoot a pleasure, even in winter.

#3 A WARM AND QUIET FLOOR

Cork flooring absorbs sound and radiates warmth at the same time. Floating cork floors offer outstanding thermal and acoustic insulation, turning your living space into a calm, welcoming retreat.

An excellent choice for home offices, relaxation corners, or bedrooms where peace and quiet matter most. Cork’s natural flexibility also softens each step, giving you unmatched underfoot comfort.

#4 A SAFER HOME

Safety in your home is essential, which is why cork flooring panels are a wise pick. Their non-slip surface lowers the risk of accidents, while scratch resistance and easy cleaning make them ideal for busy households.

Additionally, cork’s natural antibacterial properties protect against dust mites and bacteria, making it a safe and healthy choice for families with children and pets.

#5 TECHNOLOGY ENHANCING NATURE

Unlike traditional flooring options, our cork floating floors merge innovative functionality with a strong connection to nature.

Their multilayer construction with a high-quality HDF board ensures excellent insulation and long-lasting durability. This makes cork flooring not only stylish but also practical — the ideal fit for today’s modern homes.
