WHO IS RENIA 3D EMBOSSING FILLER FOR?

It’s a material designed for hand-applied 3D leather embossing — helping the leather hold its shape and preventing the pattern from collapsing.

It’s a good choice if you:

practise leathercraft, either as a hobby or professionally,
create 3D embossing in leather,
make leather goods such as sheaths, cases, pouches, artistic pieces, and similar items,
shape and mould leather and want it to retain its form.

The filler supports the design from the inside, so the leather doesn’t “spring back” and keeps its depth.

If you only do flat embossing or work with thin leather without moulding, this product is probably not for you.

WHAT IS THIS CORK FILLER MADE OF?

The filler is a blend of natural cork, leather dust, and adhesive. All specifically formulated for working with moulded and 3D-embossed leather. It contains no toluene or MEK, making it safer to use.

3D LEATHER EMBOSSING – HOW TO USE THE CORK FILLER?

The cork compound is applied to the flesh side of the leather. Here’s a quick guide:

Stir the compound before use. A uniform consistency helps it fill the recesses evenly.
Apply the filler with a spatula or palette knife. Press it in gently so it fills the empty spaces beneath the embossing. Make sure no air bubbles are trapped.
Smooth the surface and remove any excess material.

Before first use, please read the instructions and safety warnings on the product label.

Before applying the product, cover the back side of the leather with Renia Gummilösung / Rubber Cement and allow it to dry. The manufacturer recommends using this binder to ensure that the filling forms a permanent bond with the leather, as the filling compound must adhere properly to the leather.

DO I NEED TO USE ADDITIONAL ADHESIVE TO BIND THE MATERIALS?

No — the filler already contains an adhesive that binds the cork and leather dust together.

HOW LONG DOES THE CORK FILLER TAKE TO DRY?

Depending on conditions and with typical use, it takes around 1–2 hours to dry when applied in layers up to about 1 cm thick. For thicker layers, it’s best to leave the filler to dry overnight. The drying process can be sped up by applying gentle heat.

HOW SHOULD RENIA 3D EMBOSSING FILLER BE STORED?

The most important thing is to prevent the product from freezing, as this causes the compound to lose its properties. After use, seal the tin tightly, making sure no air can get inside.

The best storage conditions are a temperature of around 20°C, a dry place, and stable conditions without temperature fluctuations. Stored this way, the shelf life is at least 12 months, provided the tin is properly sealed.

WHY IS NATURAL CORK USED FOR LEATHER EMBOSSING?

The filler is cork-based because cork is a lightweight, practical stabiliser beneath the embossing. Doesn’t add unnecessary weight to the piece and handles deformation very well.
