WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED IN THE BUREL PANEL COLLECTION?
The Burel collection brings together two materials with a long tradition in Portugal – cork and burel.
Cork has been closely linked with Portugal for generations. Nowadays, its applications extend far beyond bottle stoppers and notice boards. It is also used for decorative wall panels, flooring, furniture and many practical everyday products. Burel, on the other hand, is a traditional Portuguese textile produced from 100% sheep’s wool, with roots in the mountainous Serra da Estrela region.
Combined in one panel, these two natural materials create an original surface with clearly contrasting textures.
WHAT DOES THE BUREL FOREST MODEL LOOK LIKE?
Burel Forest features a warm, natural cork base enriched with irregular pieces of burel in different shades of green, forest-inspired tones.
It is a suitable option if you want to keep the authentic appearance of cork while introducing subtle colour and additional texture. Burel Forest gives the wall a more expressive, organic character without hiding the natural structure of the cork itself.
WHAT LAYERS ARE BUREL DECORATIVE CORK WALL PANELS MADE OF?
The panels consist of three separate layers:
- Protective surface finish.
- Decorative layer combining natural cork veneer with burel elements.
- Core made from agglomerated cork.

HOW ARE DECORATIVE CORK WALL PANELS INSTALLED?
The panels are fitted with adhesive. We especially recommend Wakol D-3540. Typical consumption is approximately 150–250 g/m², which makes it straightforward to estimate the amount required for a given wall area. One 0.8 kg pack covers approximately 4 m² on average, equivalent to around 22 panels. A larger 2.5 kg pack is enough for approximately 12.5 m², or about 68 panels.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Before fixing the panels to the wall, make sure the surface is properly prepared. It needs to be clean, dry, level and free from dust, grease and any other contamination that could weaken the adhesive bond.
Any uneven areas should be levelled beforehand. If the wall is highly absorbent, for example concrete, applying a primer is recommended. This helps prevent the adhesive from being absorbed into the surface too quickly.
It is also important to acclimatise the cork before installation, preferably for 72 hours. Cork needs this time to adapt to the temperature and humidity of the room. Skipping or shortening this stage may increase the likelihood of dimensional changes after installation.
DO THE PANELS HAVE BEVELLED EDGES?
No. These panels are manufactured without bevelled edges.
WHY CHOOSE DECORATIVE CORK WALL PANELS RATHER THAN OTHER MATERIALS?
Different finishing materials create very different effects in a room. Plastic is a synthetic material, whereas ceramic tends to feel cooler and harder. Cork behaves quite differently – it is natural, pleasant and warm to the touch, helping the wall feel more inviting.
That can make a real difference in spaces such as a bedroom, living room or home office, where a warmer and more comfortable atmosphere is often preferred. Cork introduces natural texture to the wall, while the Burel collection adds distinctive touches of colour.
DOES DECORATIVE CORK OFFER INSULATING PROPERTIES?
It is useful to separate improved everyday comfort from dedicated insulation. Decorative cork can make a wall feel warmer and more pleasant to the touch, while also creating a warmer visual impression inside the room – and that is a genuine benefit.
However, panels from the Burel range are designed mainly as a decorative wall finish. If thermal insulation is your main objective, ThermoKork Panels or Expanded Cork would be more suitable options.
In short, decorative cork is a practical choice when you want to finish a wall while also improving the sense of comfort in the room. If insulation is the primary goal, it is better to select a product developed specifically for that purpose.
WILL THE JOINTS BETWEEN THE PANELS BE NOTICEABLE?
The joins between individual panels can remain slightly visible. Cork naturally responds to the temperature and humidity of its surroundings, which is why proper acclimatisation before installation is so important. Allowing the panels to adjust to the room conditions helps limit later dimensional changes and can make the joins less apparent. Even so, minor visible joints after fitting should be treated as a natural characteristic of cork.
