Does your wall feel a little too ordinary? Repainting it or adding another wallpaper design is always an option, but these familiar solutions can quickly become repetitive. Burel Sunsets Wall Cork Panels combine natural cork with Portuguese burel in warm shades of orange. The scattered colour accents bring extra depth to the naturally varied cork surface without overpowering it. The result is a refined decorative finish made from two materials with strong roots in Portuguese tradition.

The Burel collection is based on two materials that are strongly associated with Portuguese tradition – cork and burel.
Cork has been used in Portugal for generations and today its applications go far beyond bottle stoppers and notice boards. It can be found in decorative wall finishes, flooring, furniture and many everyday products. Burel is a traditional Portuguese textile made from 100% sheep’s wool, with its roots in the mountainous Serra da Estrela region.
Bringing them together creates a natural decorative surface where two very different textures complement one another.
Burel Sunsets has a warm, natural cork surface enriched with irregular burel accents in shades of orange. These coloured fragments appear unevenly across the panel, giving the design a varied and spontaneous look rather than a repeated pattern.
It is a good option if you want to preserve the natural appearance of cork while introducing warmer colour into the room. Burel Sunsets adds lively autumnal tones without hiding the characteristic texture and variation of the cork itself.
The panels are built from three individual layers:
More precise information about the panel dimensions and thicknesses is available below in the product specification.
The panels are fitted with adhesive. For this particular model, we recommend Wakol D-3540. Typical consumption is around 150–250 g/m², which makes it straightforward to calculate the amount needed for your wall. One 0.8 kg pack covers approximately 4 m², equivalent to about 22 panels. A larger 2.5 kg pack is suitable for roughly 12.5 m², or around 68 panels.
If you are unsure which amount of adhesive will be sufficient for your project, contact us – we will help you work it out.
Before installation begins, the wall should be prepared carefully. Make sure the surface is clean, dry, level and free from dust, grease and other contamination, as anything left on the wall can weaken the adhesive bond.
If the substrate is uneven, it should be levelled first. Highly absorbent surfaces, such as concrete, may also benefit from a primer, which helps prevent the adhesive from being absorbed too rapidly.
Do not forget to acclimatise the cork before fitting, ideally for approximately 72 hours. This gives the material enough time to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room. Without sufficient acclimatisation, the panels may be more likely to change dimensions after installation.
The material you choose has a noticeable influence on how a room feels. Plastic is synthetic, while ceramic tends to feel cooler and more rigid. Cork offers a very different experience – it is natural, warm to the touch and gives the wall a softer, more welcoming appearance.
This can be especially valuable in a bedroom, living room or home office, where you may prefer a warmer atmosphere rather than a cold-looking finish. Cork introduces its own natural structure, while the Burel collection brings additional colour. In Burel Sunsets, those details appear in warm orange tones.
It is important to separate greater everyday comfort from dedicated thermal insulation. Decorative cork can make the wall feel warmer and more pleasant to the touch, and its natural appearance can also make the room feel visually cosier.
The Burel collection, however, is intended mainly as a decorative finish. If improving thermal insulation is your main objective, ThermoKork Panels or Expanded Cork would be more suitable products.
In other words, decorative cork is a sensible choice when you want to finish a wall while also adding a little more comfort. When insulation performance itself matters most, it is better to use a product designed specifically for that purpose.
The joins between individual panels can remain slightly visible. Cork naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity, which is why proper acclimatisation before installation matters so much. Allowing the material to adjust beforehand helps limit later dimensional movement and can make the joins less noticeable. Even after correct installation, however, subtle visible joins are a normal characteristic of natural cork.
Want to get away from synthetic finishes and walls that feel cold or overly rigid? Some decorative surfaces may photograph well, yet seem less convincing once you see and touch them in a real interior. Burel Sunsets Wall Cork Panels offer a warmer alternative, pairing natural cork with lively orange accents for a more welcoming finish.

The contrast between natural cork and coloured wool gives these panels a look that is difficult to recreate with standard wall finishes. The surface appears warm, varied and rich in texture, with no perfectly repeated pattern.
This pairing also reflects the heritage of Portuguese materials and craftsmanship. Both cork and burel have a long-standing connection with Portugal, while here they are presented together in a modern decorative surface.
Burel Sunsets is a good choice if you want to avoid a flat and overly uniform wall. The natural cork keeps the overall look grounded, while the irregular orange wool accents add energy and make the finish noticeably different from conventional panels.
As a natural material, cork is well suited to interiors where you want to use fewer synthetic finishes. It also has a practical benefit in everyday use because it is less prone to attracting dust than many other surfaces. This can be useful when you want a decorative wall without adding unnecessary maintenance.
Keeping the panels in good condition is straightforward. Regular, uncomplicated cleaning is generally enough, so cork does not require elaborate treatments or time-consuming care.
Paint and wallpaper are familiar finishing options, but their effect is usually limited to changing colour or pattern. Cork changes the character of the surface itself, adding natural structure, visible variation and a more tactile appearance.
That means the wall can become an important decorative feature without relying on additional accessories. If a perfectly smooth finish feels too conventional, Burel Sunsets wall cork panels provide a more individual solution, combining the natural look of cork with warm sunset-inspired accents for a refined premium finish.
