Choosing a wall finish is not as straightforward as it might seem. Paint can feel too ordinary, wallpaper does not always suit the interior, and heavier wall coverings can put additional strain on the walls. If you are looking for a solution that is both decorative and practical, natural materials are well worth considering. One such option is Europa PB Cork for Wall Covering. It is a solution for those who want to create a bright, calm finish while also having an attractive surface that is easy to install and simple to keep clean.

You probably have a few questions, so let us answer them.

WHY IS DECORATIVE CORK FOR WALL COVERING BETTER THAN OTHER MATERIALS?

Wood creates a natural, warm effect, but it often requires regular maintenance and proper surface protection. Decorative cork is less demanding in this respect – it is easy to keep clean, and its natural structure works well in interiors that are used every day.

PVC and other synthetic materials, on the other hand, can imitate natural materials convincingly, but they are still plastics. Cork is made from the natural bark of the cork oak, so it is a good choice if you want a genuine natural material rather than an imitation. It is also antistatic, pleasant to the touch and does not require complicated maintenance.

IS THE EUROPA PB PATTERN UNIFORMLY WHITE?

No. The pattern is irregular and natural. Against the white background, you can see darker, elongated and finer fragments that create a distinctive, contrasting pattern. It is not a repeating design, so every panel looks slightly different. This gives the finished wall a more natural, less mass-produced appearance.

DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE DECORATIVE WALL CORK BEFORE INSTALLATION?

Yes, absolutely. The wall cork needs time to adjust to the conditions in your home. Leave it in the room where it will be installed for 72 hours. This helps prevent the cork from warping or coming away from the wall.

HOW DO I INSTALL EUROPA PB ON A WALL?

  1. Prepare the wall: Make sure the surface is clean and free from dust and grease. It is also important that the wall is even.
  2. Acclimatisation: Leave the Europa PB panels in the room where they will be installed for 72 hours. This will help prevent the cork from warping or coming away from the wall.
  3. Choose the adhesive: Use Wakol D-3540 contact adhesive. Adhesive consumption is 150–250 g/m². A 0.8 kg pack covers approximately 4 m², while a 2.5 kg pack covers around 12.5 m².
  4. Apply the adhesive: Apply the adhesive to both the wall and the back of the panels using a velour roller to achieve an even layer. Wait until the adhesive becomes transparent – it will then be ready for bonding.
  5. Install the panels: Gently press the cork onto the surface, making sure the panels adhere properly. Work carefully so that the panels do not shift.
  6. Drying time: Leave the panels for around 24 hours to allow the adhesive to dry completely. During this time, do not move the panels or place any load on them.

CAN DECORATIVE CORK BE GLUED TO UNEVEN WALLS?

We do not recommend gluing cork to uneven walls. Uneven surfaces can cause the panels to come away from the wall and create installation problems. Wall cork works best on smooth, even surfaces.

HOW DO I CARE FOR DECORATIVE WALL CORK?

For everyday care, you do not need any special cleaning products. Light dirt can be removed with a soft cloth, a duster, or by gently wiping the surface with a slightly damp cloth.

If a stain appears, it is best to start with a mild cleaning product and a small amount of water. Avoid acetone, chlorine, strong detergents and vigorous scrubbing – these can damage the finish or cause discolouration.

CAN DECORATIVE CORK BE CUT TO SIZE?

Yes. The panels can be trimmed to fit the wall, around corners or around electrical sockets. It is best to use a sharp knife and a metal ruler to achieve a straight, clean edge. When cutting, work on a stable surface and make several lighter cuts rather than one deep cut.

Decorative cork does not have to be just a wall decoration. It is a natural finish that combines an attractive appearance with practical everyday use – it is pleasant to the touch, easy to keep clean and simple to look after. If you want a material that looks good without requiring complicated maintenance, cork is a very sensible choice.

Black text WHY is it worth it?» with cork on the right on a white background.

#1 ELEGANCE IN A NATURAL FORM

If you do not want another plain wall or a repetitive wallpaper pattern, it is worth choosing a material with a texture of its own. Decorative wall cork creates a more natural effect because its pattern is neither perfectly uniform nor repetitive.

Europa PB combines a white finish with darker fragments. This gives the surface clear contrast and an interesting texture while still keeping the overall look bright. It is a good choice if you want to bring a wall to life without introducing a bold colour or an overly decorative pattern.

#2 A WALL THAT REALLY STANDS OUT

If you want your interior to have a character of its own, you do not have to reach straight for bold colours or highly decorative patterns. The design draws attention through its texture alone – it looks different from standard paint, wallpaper or conventional wall panels. This gives the room something less obvious and more distinctive.

This type of finish works well not only at home. You can use it in an office, conference room, reception area, boutique, showroom or commercial space. It is a good way to highlight a feature wall, entrance area or any space you want people to remember.

#3 WHY CORK?

Cork has been used as a wall covering for years because it combines several qualities that are difficult to achieve at the same time. It is lightweight, flexible, pleasant to the touch and has a natural texture, so the wall does not look flat or artificial.

Cork cladding also allows you to change the character of an interior without using heavy materials such as stone or concrete. It creates a warmer, more natural effect and works well wherever the wall is meant to be more than just a background. That is why cork is used both in homes and in modern commercial interiors.
