The table is used every day, so crumbs, stains, marks, and scratches quickly start to appear. Of course, you could wipe everything down each time and keep an eye on where you put your plate or glass. But why give yourself one more thing to think about during an ordinary breakfast or dinner? The Piazzolla Cork Placemat keeps things tidy and helps protect the tabletop. And this isn't just another ordinary rubber pad, but one made from natural material.

What Is Worth Knowing?

WHAT CAN YOU USE THE PIAZZOLLA CORK PLACEMAT FOR?

Piazzolla is a rectangular cork placemat for the table that you can place under a plate, glass and cutlery. It helps protect the tabletop from stains, scratches and other marks that can appear during meals.

It also helps keep the table organised. Cork placemat creates a clear place setting, so you immediately know where to put your plate, glass or cutlery. There is no need to lay out a tablecloth or prepare a full table setting. Simply put the placemat down and the table instantly looks neater.

You can leave it on the table for everyday use and use it at breakfast, lunch, dinner or over a coffee. That way, it simply becomes part of your daily table setting while also bringing natural cork into the dining space and giving the table a warmer look.

WHY CHOOSE CORK INSTEAD OF FELT OR PLASTIC?

Felt and plastic placemats do their basic job, but for everyday use they come with a few drawbacks. Felt absorbs spilled drinks more easily, traps crumbs and can start to look worn. Plastic, on the other hand, is easy to wipe clean, but it feels harder, more artificial and does not have the same appeal as a natural material.

Cork sits somewhere in between, but without many of those drawbacks. It is lightweight, pleasant to the touch and works well as a layer between your tableware and the tabletop. It also does not look like something you only bring out to protect the table. The natural texture of cork looks attractive, so the placemat can easily stay on the table even when you are not using it.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN CORK PLACEMATS?

Gently is best. For everyday cleaning, a soft, slightly damp or dry cloth is all you need.

Do not scrub the placemats or use strong detergents or harsh cleaning products. Cork does not need complicated care – a simple wipe is more than enough.

Many things designed to protect a table are simply practical. Plastic or synthetic mats do the job, but they often look like something you would rather put away as soon as the meal is over. The Piazzolla Cork Placemat can stay on the table even when it is not in use, simply because it looks good.

#1 PRACTICAL FOR EVERYDAY USE

The placemat helps keep the table tidy and protects the surface from spills and marks during meals. Your plate, glass and cutlery all have their own place, so the whole setting immediately looks neater.

It also simply looks good. Natural cork feels warmer and more homely than plastic, so the placemat can stay on the table permanently. That means it looks just as good for an everyday breakfast, lunch or dinner as it does when you have guests over.

#2 A MATERIAL CHOSEN FOR A REASON

Cork is a material that is hard to mistake for anything else. It has its own distinctive texture, is lightweight, pleasant to the touch and has been used for all sorts of purposes for years – from interiors to more technical applications.

Interestingly, the trees do not need to be cut down to harvest it. The outer layer of bark is removed from the cork oak, and over time it grows back. In many regions, the harvesting process is also closely tied to tradition. Knowledge of when and how to remove the bark is often passed down from one generation to the next.

And that is part of what makes cork so interesting: on the one hand, it looks natural and has a character of its own, while on the other, it is simply a practical material that works well in many everyday applications.
